Huron School District Proposes Zero-Tax-Rate Increase Bond Proposal for May

The Huron School District Board of Education has approved placing a zero-tax-rate increase bond proposal on the May 2026 ballot. If approved by voters, the proposal will not increase the current tax rate residents pay.

Like many school districts across Michigan, Huron Schools is managing aging facilities that require improvements to meet today’s learning, safety, and technology needs. After reviewing district-wide facility assessments and gathering feedback from staff, families, and community members, school district leaders identified key priorities to create safer and up-to-date learning environments for all students.

“Our schools are at the heart of the Huron community,” said Superintendent Donovan Rowe. “While our buildings have supported generations of students, many systems are aging and no longer meet today's educational programming needs. This bond proposal allows us to take care of what we have, invest in classrooms and safety, and prepare our schools for the future, without increasing the current tax rate.”

The May 5, zero-tax-rate increase bond proposal focuses on improvements such as replacing aging infrastructure and HVAC systems; enhancing school safety through improved entry systems, updated surveillance, classroom locking systems, and districtwide communication systems; and upgrading classrooms with new furniture and instructional technology. The proposal also includes improving playground equipment, enhancing and renovating the auditorium, and constructing new varsity baseball and softball fields and tennis courts. These updates will benefit students, families, and community members who use our facilities and attend our school district events.
