About the Huron School District
The Huron School District is a great place for learning. The Huron Township community is one of the last rural areas existing in Wayne County Michigan. Huron Schools embraces small town values; while providing students with big time educational opportunities. Because of the excellent educational setting, highly desirable schools and outstanding employees, Huron Schools are the “Schools of Choice” in the downriver region.
Our district’s mission statement says it all “Completely Committed to Kids!” The Huron Board of Education with the cooperation of students, parents, community members and district stakeholders has established a complete 3-5 year strategic plan. For more information on the Huron Schools’ mission, vision, beliefs and bold initiatives, please click on the “Completely Committed to Kids!” banner located on the home page.
Huron Schools offer a wide variety of academic and vocational opportunities for students. All Schools are fully accredited by the North Central Association (NCA) and have been graded by the Michigan Department of Education’s Education YES! Program receiving grades of A’s and B’s. Likewise, all buildings have met Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) under the No Child Left Behind Act.
The Michigan Merit Exam and ACT are a series of tests that measure individual student’s mastering of the Michigan Standards and Benchmarks in Mathematics, Reading, Social Studies, English Language Arts, Science, and Writing. As part of the MME, The American College Test (ACT) measures a student’s college readiness standards.
Recently, The Huron Board of Education and the Huron High School staff received outstanding news from the State of Michigan with the release of the Spring 2009 ACT and Michigan Merit Exam scores. The increase in student achievement scores only reinforces that Huron High School is one of the top performing high schools in the area. There are 34 school districts located within Wayne County and Huron Schools ranked in the top 10 in nearly all categories reported. While these gains are a tribute to our outstanding students, parents, teachers and staff, the ACT and Michigan Merit Exams are just one measurement of Huron High School’s total success. Students in the Huron School District are excelling both in and out of the classroom.
